First Visit

Patient Information Norwood, MA Mansfield, MA

During your initial consultation, Dr. Turesky will perform a thorough evaluation and explain your diagnosis and treatment options. Occasionally, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, patients with a complex medical history or treatment plan will require a pre-surgical consultation appointment. The following procedures require a pre-surgical consultation appointment: intravenous general anesthesia, intravenous conscious sedation, oral sedation, impacted wisdom tooth removal, dental implants, bone grafting, extraction of multiple teeth (usually four or more), surgical exposure of impacted teeth, lesion removal/biopsies, frenectomy, apicoectomy (surgical root canals), pre-prosthetic surgery.

If you require a tooth extraction and you are thinking of replacing the tooth with a dental implant, a consultation visit is strongly recommended prior to the extraction appointment so that Dr. Turesky can determine the best way to proceed and inform you of all your options. Please see our information regarding dental extractions, socket preservation graft, socket reconstruction graft, dental implants and dental implant video on this website for detailed information concerning these topics.

Extraction of one to three teeth under local anesthesia (Novocain) or nitrous oxide gas anesthesia generally does not require a pre-surgical consultation appointment unless there is a complex medical history or you are interested in replacing your teeth with dental implants.

Regardless of your surgical needs, you are encouraged to schedule a consultation appointment if you have any questions concerning your diagnosis, treatment or anesthetic options.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Your surgical referral slip (if you have been given one by your dentist, otherwise it is not required) and any X-rays if applicable.
  • A list of all medications you are presently taking.
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.
  • Your physician’s name and telephone number.

IMPORTANT: All patients under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the consultation and surgical visits.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e. heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, kidney dialysis, chemotherapy, bleeding disorder, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.)

X-Rays

If your dentist or physician has taken recent radiographs (x-rays), you should bring them to your consultation appointment. If additional radiographs are necessary, they can be taken at our office facility.
